Best Anime Like Prison School
1. Grand Blue

For his first year of university, Iori Kitahara moves to the coastal town of Izu, where he lives above Grand Blue, his uncle’s scuba diving shop. Iori has high hopes and dreams of having the perfect college experience, but when he walks into the shop, he is drawn into the alcoholic activities of the carefree Diving Club members who frequent the establishment. After being persuaded by upperclassmen Shinji Tokita and Ryuujirou Kotobuki, Iori reluctantly joins their bizarre party. Later, his cousin Chisa Kotegawa walks in and catches him in the act, earning Iori’s scorn.
Grand Blue, based on Kenji Inoue and Kimitake Yoshioka’s popular comedy manga, follows Iori’s misadventures with his eccentric new friends as he strives to realise his ideal college dream while also learning to scuba dive.
Comedy that is entertaining? Men who can’t stop getting drunk and stripping? Awkward Virgin acquaintances? Are there any misunderstandings? ✓
Grand Blue is one of the most amusing anime I’ve ever seen. The plot is probably one of the least important aspects of a full-on comedy anime. A comedy anime, in my opinion, is all about entertaining characters and their interactions with one another. And Grand Blue has them all.
It has a very simple story, like most comedy anime, about a college freshman who is looking forward to a great college life. However, things do not go as planned when he is forced to join the “diving club,” only to discover that the members drink alcohol and strip rather than dive.
This is already absurd, but it gets even better as the show progresses and more characters are introduced.
2. KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!

After dying a laughable and pathetic death on his way back from buying a game, Kazuma Satou, a high school student and recluse, finds himself sitting before a beautiful but obnoxious goddess named Aqua. She offers the NEET two options: go to heaven or reincarnate in every gamer’s fantasy world! Kazuma, who has chosen to begin a new life, is quickly assigned the task of defeating a Demon King who is terrorising villages. But before he departs, he can select one item of any type to aid him in his quest, and the future hero selects Aqua. However, Kazuma has made a critical mistake: Aqua is completely useless!
Unfortunately, their problems do not stop there; living in such a world is nothing like it appears in a game. Instead of embarking on an exciting adventure, the couple must first work to make ends meet. Their misfortune has only just begun!
KonoSuba in general is very funny, and the characters are very memorable. The theme songs are fantastic. It’s also one of the few anime with a good dub.
3. SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist

Since the implementation of strict new morality laws, Japan has become a nation cleansed of all that is obscene and impure. Authorities have gone to great lengths to ensure that society remains chaste, including monitoring citizens with special devices worn around their necks.
Tanukichi Okuma, the son of a notorious terrorist who opposed chastity laws, has just started high school and is volunteering for the student council in order to get closer to president Anna Nishikinomiya, his childhood friend and crush. He has no idea that the vice president, Ayame Kajou, has a secret identity: Blue Snow, a masked criminal dedicated to disseminating lewd material among the sheltered public—and Tanukichi has piqued the girl’s interest because of his father’s notoriety.
Tanukichi is quickly dragged into her SOX organization, where he is forced to spread obscene propaganda in order to aid in the launch of an attack against the oppressive rule of the government. Tanukichi will be forced to do the unthinkable when he realises their primary target is the person he most admires, with their school as the first point of attack.
4. Kakegurui

Hyakkaou Private Academy, unlike many other schools, prepares students for life after high school. The academy has its own quirks that set it apart from the rest because many of the students are the children of the world’s wealthiest people. It is a regular school that teaches history, languages, and other subjects during the day. It transforms into a gambling den at night, where they learn how to deal with money and manipulate people. Money is power, and those who win games are at the top of the class.
Yumeko Jabami, a seemingly innocent and beautiful transfer student, is eager to begin her studies at Hyakkaou. Unlike the others, she gambles for the thrill of it, and her borderline insane gambling style may bring too many new cards to the table.
5. Great Teacher Onizuka

Eikichi Onizuka, a twenty-two-year-old virgin and ex-biker gang leader, Shonan conqueror, has a dream: to become Japan’s greatest high school teacher. This isn’t because he wants to teach, but because he wants to have a loving teenage wife when he’s old and grey. Nonetheless, Onizuka is more than just a perverted, greedy, and lazy delinquent. So, when he lands a job as the homeroom teacher of Class 3-4 at the prestigious Holy Forest Academy despite duping the Vice Principal, he puts all of his skills to the test, as this class is notorious.
Students in the class use psychological warfare to mentally break any new homeroom teacher they get, forcing them to quit and leave school because they despise all teachers. Onizuka, on the other hand, isn’t your typical teacher, and he’s up for any challenge.
Bullying, suicide, and sexual harassment are just a few of the issues his students face every day. Onizuka assists them by addressing the underlying causes of their issues, even if it means jumping off a building to save a suicidal child. Thanks to the Great Teacher Onizuka’s eccentric charm and fun-loving nature, Class 3-4 gradually learns how much fun school can be when you’re a student of his.
6. Golden Boy

Kintarou Ooe specialises in part-time work, riding his trusty Mikazuki 5 all over Japan and finding work wherever he can. His adventures provide him with knowledge and experience that cannot be taught in a classroom, ranging from political corruption to the delicacy of a young woman’s heart. With nothing but the open road ahead of him—not to mention the many beautiful women he meets along the way—Kintarou pursues his education while working odd jobs, no matter how demeaning they are. Who knows what will happen as he gains experience from each task he completes? He might even be able to save the world one day. One thing is certain: this will be a very educational experience.
7. Highschool of the Dead

Unexpectedly, the dead began to rise, and Japan was thrown into complete chaos. Takashi Kimuro is forced to kill his best friend after he is bitten and becomes one of the walking dead, terrorising a high school. They narrowly escape their school’s death trap, vowing to protect Rei Miyamoto, the girlfriend of the man he just executed, only to be greeted by a fallen society.
Takashi and Rei quickly join forces with other students on a quest to find their family members and learn what caused this massive pandemic. They are joined by Saeko Busujima, the lovely president of the Kendo Club, Kouta Hirano, an otaku with a gun fetish, Saya Takagi, the daughter of a powerful politician, and Shizuka Marikawa, their hot school nurse. Will the combined strength of these people be enough to defeat the undead apocalypse?
8. Nanbaka

Nanba is the world’s most formidable prison, built to house criminals who are too dangerous to be held in regular jails. Cell 13’s four inmates are especially astute in this regard, having successfully escaped from every other prison. Juugo, a lock specialist who’s spent most of his life in prison; Uno, a gambler with a keen sense of intuition; Nico, an otaku whose body reacts strangely to drugs; and Rock, a bruiser with a penchant for food, are among the characters. The daily shenanigans of the four prisoners always cause problems for the building supervisor, Hajime Sugoroku, who desperately tries to keep them from escaping Nanba.
Nanbaka chronicles the comedic and glamorous exploits of these inmates and their guards. The prison life in Nanba isn’t all that bad, with three square meals a day and sports festivals, and it’s the closest thing these four have to a home.
9. Armed Girl’s Machiavellism

The Private Aichi Symbiosis Academy began as a high school for upper-class girls. Out of fear, the girls asked to be allowed to bring weapons to school when it became co-ed. When that was enacted, the “Supreme Five Swords,” a five-man vigilante corps-style organization, was formed.
The five swords eventually evolved into a group that corrected problematic students over many generations, and the academy began accepting such students proactively in order to correct them.
Nomura Fudou was sent to this school after being involved in a large brawl. What will he do when his only options after enrolling are to be expelled or to be corrected in the same way that the other male students were…by being forced to dress and act like a girl?
10. Seitokai Yakuindomo

On his first day of high school at the formerly all-girls Ousai Private Academy, Takatoshi Tsuda is called out by student council president Shino Amakusa for his unkempt uniform. Shino offers Takatoshi the position of vice president of the student council as an apology for delaying Takatoshi’s first class, stating that the group requires a male point of view to accommodate the arrival of boys at the school. Despite his displeasure, Takatoshi is appointed as the student council’s newest member despite having yet to enter the school building.
Takatoshi quickly notices that the other student council members are odd: Secretary Aria Shichijou, who appears to be a typical sheltered rich girl, but is just as risque, if not more so, than the president; and finally, treasurer Suzu Hagimura, who appears normal but has the body of an elementary school student and is extremely self-conscious of it. Surrounded by these colourful characters, the new vice president is now subjected to a barrage of sexual satire and lunacy.
